How to use the multi session mapping tool in LML

This is a video tutorial covering the same topic as the article

What is the multi session mapping tool

The multi session mapping tool is a feature of Link Master Logging (LML) which lets you combine data from any number of log files into a single map in order to see what areas have been driven and what areas have not. For example, in the grid below, you can see that the filled in regions have RSRP test data, whereas the empty regions were missed during the test.

How to create a map grid

To use the multi session mapping tool, you must import a KML grid into LML so that the software knows what to draw on the map. This KML grid must have specific tags in order to be properly imported into LML, but you do not need to worry about these tags if you use the process below.

First, download and open QGIS from here. Open a new project, select open street map, and zoom into the region you are testing. Then, go to the top and select Vector>Research Tools>Create Grid

Next, change the grid type to Rectangle (Polygon), select the grid extent on the map, and select the size of the grid tiles. Once you are done, click Run and you will see your grid. From here, you can delete any unnecessary grid squares before proceeding.

Once you are happy with the grid, left click on the grid object, then select Export>Save Feature As

Select KML for the format, name the file, and select the file output location. Make a note of the folder where you stored the file, as you will need it during the next step.

Finally, open LML, select Tool>Grid KML Converter, then navigate to the folder containing your KML grid. Once you click OK, the tool will generate a file with the proper tags named [Filename]_FinalOutput inside of an outputs folder in LML.

How to import the grid

Now that you have a grid with the proper KML tags, we are ready to import it into LML. Go to Setup>Map Grid Config, and open the configuration window.

From here, select the grid you created earlier. If you used the Grid KML Converter, the output will be in an outputs folder in LML, which you can see below. Then, input the Document ID, which will just be the filename after using the Grid KML Converter. Drag a parameter from the left sidebar into the parameter tabs. This parameter will determine the color of the grid squares on the map, so make sure to choose something that will be present in all of the test data.

Finally, select Apply. Now, if you open up the Map using Information>Map, you will see the grid overlayed on the ma

How to populate the map

There are two ways to add data to the map.
1. If you want to add data from a previously recorded test, go to Map Grid Config and select Load Data From Log Files.
2. If you want data from a future test to be added to the map, check the Save to DB box. Now, after every test is finished, the log file will automatically be saved in the database and the map will be updated.
