How to use clusters to group data in LMA

This is a video version of this article.

In Link Master Analysis (LMA), the cluster tool lets you group data points together, facilitating legend filtering, block sync, and the creation of a new log file with only the clustered data present.

How to create a cluster

To create a new cluster, left click, then select Clusters>New

In the dialog box, select New Group and make a name for your cluster group.

After you click Ok, you will be brought back to the map, except now there will be additional icons in the top left.

Select the Create icon, then left click to start drawing a new cluster on the map. When you are done with a cluster, right click to finish the cluster. You can put more than one cluster in a group if you wish. The clusters are automatically saved to the group after they are drawn.

To manage the cluster groups you have created, left click, then go to Cluster>Open (Manager). Here, you can open previous clusters, merge clusters together, and import clusters from outside LMA.

Congratulations, you have now created a cluster!

What can you do with clusters

There are a variety of things you can do with clusters in LMA.
For a quick overview of the data points within a cluster, left click, then select Clusters>Cluster Filtered Legend. This will update the legend to only show data from inside the cluster
To find the clustered data in non-map views, simply left click, then select Clusters>Block Sync. This will highlight the data within the clustered region in grid views and time graphs, letting you follow clustered data through a log file. For example, the drive test route below was driven four times, meaning that there are four yellow regions in the time graph where the data is from within the cluster.

To export data from within the cluster to a new log file, left click, select Clusters>Create New Measure, then click Build. This will make a new log file containing only data from within the cluster.
